SPEAKER BRIEF

  • Where and when will Chicago Build be taking place?

Chicago Build 2023 will be taking place on October 11 and 12. The event will be taking place at McCormick Place.

  • When will I need to be at the venue?

We ask each of our speakers to be onsite at least an hour before their sessions begin.

  • How long will the panel session be, and what is the format?

All sessions are panel discussions and are 50 minutes long - 40 minutes of discussion, followed by a 10-minute Q and A with the audience.

Each panel will have a moderator and 4-5 other speakers in the discussion. This is an informal panel discussion and there are no slides needed. Each speaker will submit 2 talking points/questions for the moderator to raise during the discussion.

You will be introduced to your panel at least 4 weeks before the event, via an individual email thread. You're welcome to set up an alignment call in order to prepare for the session.

  • Will there be a moderator and what is their role?

Each session will be led by a moderator, who will facilitate and guide the conversation between the panel. The moderator will collect all speaking points before the session, ask these questions to the panelists and direct the conversation.

If you are interested in moderating your session at this year's show, please feel free to email the team at speakers@chicagobuildexpo.com

  • When will I be introduced to my panel?

You will be introduced to your panel at least 4 weeks before the event, via an individual email thread.

  • How should I prepare for the panel?

When panels are introduced in September, we will be asking each speaker to submit two speaking points via the email thread. These can be formatted as statements, questions, bullet points, and case studies - whichever format you would prefer.

We would love for your network to attend your session, so we will be sending your personalized speaker banners in the lead-up to Chicago Build each month to post across your social media. Please ensure you're following Chicago Build and always use #ChicagoBuild so we can like/share your posts and add to the buzz!

  • What technology will be used during the panel session?

Each speaker will be given a microphone to use during the session. If you're giving a presentation/workshop and are required to present slides, please send a copy of your slides by October 2. You will also need to bring a spare copy on a USB.

  • Will I need to register my own ticket?

We will register your speaker badge and you will be able to collect your badge at the speaker check-in desk on the day of your session.

Video Promotion

In order to drum up excitement for your session, we would love for you to record a personalized video about your chosen topic at Chicago Build! This video can then be posted on your social media to your network and on the Chicago Build socials. Here are some of our top tips:

  • Keep it short and simple! We would recommend the video length to be around 30 seconds long
  • Wondering what to include? Mention some of the key talking points of the discussion, why the topic is important to you, the date and time of your session and that tickets are free!
  • A selfie video while you're at work is perfect! Treat it like you're Facetiming a friend to get the best results
  • Enjoy recording it!

Please send your video to .

With the introduction of PCA’s Roadmap to Carbon Neutrality in October 2021, the cement industry embraced a lofty goal to voluntarily reduce its carbon footprint to zero. A key “lever” of this challenge is an aggressive approach to improve the manufacture of cementitious materials. After nearly 200 years as the go-to product for concrete construction, portland cement is evolving as manufacturers develop new cement formulations to meet the needs of the concrete industry, while offering a lower-carbon footprint. Tested and proven, blended cements that reduce carbon footprint by up to 10% are already being widely used, but that’s only the beginning. Over the next 30 years, cement footprints will – and must – continue to shrink. This session explains key aspects of the cement and concrete industry’s vision of reaching carbon neutrality while helping designers and builders create resilient, sustainable infrastructure that America and the Midwest depend on.
