Shawn Waddell graduated from North Carolina A&T State University in 2015 with his Bachelor of Science in architectural engineering. He then went on to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to earn his Master of Architecture with a structures concentration in 2019. Currently, Shawn works with SmithGroup - an integrated architecture firm - as a Structural Engineer in their Chicago office. His role spans across different types of buildings - from health care, commercial, workplace, etc. - to create 3D models of designs, analyze structures, formulate details, and be a liaison for contractors. Outside of work, he is active with the National Organization for Minority Architects (NOMA), AIA, and with the North Carolina A&T State University Executive Alumni Board (EAB) for the Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering (CAEE) department. For enjoyment, he turns to cooking (his cheesecakes are legendary), writing poetry, music, weightlifting, or watching his shows. Keep Striving!
