Jeyra Arocho is a Fire Protection Engineer at SmithGroup, an advocate for Afro-Latinas in STEM, educator, and content creator. When she is not designing fire-safety systems, Jeyra is empowering other women of color and working to close the gap between underrepresented individuals and resources to succeed in STEM. She strives to give back to her community by mentoring and educating through workshops, courses and speaking at events. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Jeyra started her undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico and completed the degree at the University of Illinois Chicago in 2021 after being displaced by Hurricane María in 2017.
