Brett Horin

Associate Building Performance Analyst, CannonDesign

Brett Horin is a high performance building analyst at CannonDesign. His project experience spans a wide range of building types, climates, scales, and design phases. Brett has experience with whole building energy modeling, energy master planning, computational fluid dynamics, daylighting simulations, and life cycle assessments. Working with project teams, Brett aims to simplify technical content with insightful data visualizations to help impact design decisions. Of great importance now, is helping project teams understand the performance goals and requirements of energy code updates, and how decisions in concept design impact the future energy performance of a project. He aims to develop resources and workflows that facilitate this knowledge sharing within a large architecture firm.

Brett has a background in engineering and design. He has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Northwestern University and a Master of Science in Architectural Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology. With experience at large architecture and engineering firms, he has been able to hone both technical and design skills that have been well suited for the realm of energy simulation work in architecture. He has presented at numerous conferences for his building energy simulation work, specifically regarding workflows that involve automation and machine learning.
