Supervising Planner, West Region, City of Chicago Department of Planning and Development (DPD)
Brian Hacker is a city planner with more than a dozen years of experience in Metropolitan Chicago where he has specialized in the topics of transportation, land use, urban design, public engagement and equitable community development. In his past roles with Metra and the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA), he managed a multi-modal grant program, contributed to transit-oriented planning efforts in communities throughout northeast Illinois and led policy-related studies. As Supervising Planner for the West Region with the City of Chicago’s Department of Planning and Development, Brian has managed a range of projects consisting of large-scale private developments in housing, health care and professional sports, such as the Saint Anthony’s Hospital Focal Point Campus, the Chicago Fire Performance Centre, the Roosevelt-Kostner mixed-use campus and the Grace Manor affordable housing development. He has also led long-range community plans, such as the “Madison Made” corridor plan, the Altenheim Line Framework, and the West Region Commercial Corridor Analysis. More recently, he led the first phase of DPD’s Missing Middle residential infill program in the North Lawndale community. Brian strives to bring a collaborative spirit to his work that is inclusive of the residents, stakeholders, public agencies and other partners who are vital to the planning process
