Alan Barker

Principal, Lamar Johnson Collaborative

Alan Barker is an architect and Principal at Lamar Johnson Collaborative with twenty plus years of experience in multifamily residential, mixed use, and community-based design. Alan leads LJC’s residential studio, developing thoughtful design solutions for clients ranging from high end condominium, market rate apartment, co-living, and affordable housing.


His recent work includes Embry, a condominium tower in the West Loop with Sulo Development, Chapter at Madison, a student housing project with CRG, and market rate highrises across the country with various developers.


Alan is a founding member of Architects Reimagining Chicago (ARC) and was instrumental in the creation of POPCourts! and Chicago DPD’s Public Outdoor Plazas (POP) Program.  He is a member of the Urban Land Institute and sits on the Roscoe Village Zoning and Planning Committee and Lambda Alpha Ely Programs Committee.  


Alan holds a Master of Architecture from Tulane University.  He lives in Roscoe Village with his two daughters, both of whom share their father’s love of drawing and building.
