Manager of Construction Initiatives, Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership

Shoshiwa Shields is the Manager of Construction Initiatives at The Partnership, where she leads the system wide development and deployment of scalable apprenticeship and other work-based learning programs to move residents from Illinois Northeast Region, including City of Chicago and Cook County, into high potential careers in the construction industry. Shoshiwa previously lead mechanical and technical support staff for the Illinois Department of Transportation, Associated Builders and Contractors, and IBEW FEJA workforce development construction training programs. She brings more than 10 years of business and management experience from a diverse set of roles in the construction industry. Shoshiwa has served as a carpenter, compliance officer, bid proposal writer, and project manager in construction. Shoshiwa has been appointed to the Illinois State Freight Advisory Council, Illinois Workforce Innovation Board’s Apprenticeship Committee, Illinois State Highway Toll Authority ECP Advisory Committee, CTA Red Line Restoration Advisory Committee, and Illinois State Apprenticeship Steering Committee to implement and execute strategies to transition Adult, Youth, Dislocated and Incumbent Workers into the high-demand construction industry. She received a Bachelor’s degree from DePaul University in 2001 and currently obtaining her MBA from DePaul University. Shoshiwa volunteers during the annual AEC Cares projectChicago, mentors high school students in Transportation YOU Chicago Chapter, and speaks during the MAGIC (Mentoring a Girl in Construction) Day event to encourage Chicago Public School - Career and Technical Education (CTE) high school girls to continue pursuing and entering into the construction industry.
