Seven Apartments Permitted For Construction At 6601 South Evans Avenue In Woodlawn

A permit to begin construction on a new residential building has been issued for 6601 South Evans Avenue in Woodlawn. Click Development LLC of Bronzeville filed for the permit on June 19, 2024 and it came through on August 29 with a reported cost of an even $1 million.

The subject parcel is a large vacant lot on the southeast corner of Evans Avenue and Marquette Road. No demolition will need to be permitted before work can get started. The permit calls for seven dwelling units in an apartment building, so it is anticipated that these will be rentals units. The number of stories for the structure is not specified, but there will be a basement level five and a half feet below grade. Outside, five surface parking spaces will be included on a concrete slab off the alley accessed from Marquette Road, and there will be a trash enclosure. More than 300 feet of iron fencing will surround the property.

Residents of 6601 South Evans will live three blocks from the Cottage Grove Green Line elevated platform to the north at Cottage Grove Avenue and 63rd Street. The CTA’s Route 4 bus makes stops less than one block east, with the X4, 67, and 95 buses stopping one block south at 67th Street. Emmett Louis Till Math & Science Academy and Wadsworth STEM Elementary School are each within three-block walks. See other features of the article at Chicago YIMBY!
