Person ‘extricated' after being trapped inside fallen crane during demolition of Oak Forest Hospital

A was person trapped inside an overturned construction crane at a demolition site Friday in south suburban Oak Forest, authorities said, leading to a large emergency response and rescue.

About 8:36 a.m., the Oak Forest Fire Department was called to the scene, at the grounds of the former Oak Forest Hospital at 15600 Cicero Ave., after reports that a crane had fallen on its side with a person trapped inside.

Oak Forest Fire and other agencies worked to extricate the person, authorities said, who was then transported to a nearby hospital.

Photos and video from Sky5 show a giant construction crane on its side at the site, with the bottom half of the equipment dug into the ground.

No further details on the incident or other injuries were provided.

Demolition on the hospital property began earlier this year. It's expected to last through at least March of 2028, a presentation from Cook County said. - Full article at NBC Chicago
