WORKSHOP: Stop Sharing Screens – Start Sharing Space: Practical XR for Model Coordination
Immersive technologies are often promoted as the future of model coordination, yet most teams still rely on screen sharing. This workshop focuses on a practical question: When does XR improve coordination, and when do desktop tools work better? Using real project examples, attendees will learn how shared immersive environments can improve spatial understanding, accelerate decision-making, and engage technical and nontechnical stakeholders. Rather than replacing existing BIM workflows, XR is presented as a targeted coordination tool used when teams need a clearer understanding of issues such as access, clearance, sequencing, and maintainability. The session introduces a simple framework: use desktop tools to identify and manage issues, use XR when shared spatial understanding is needed to make better decisions faster, and then return outcomes to the project’s standard coordination workflow. Success depends less on the technology itself and more on clear objectives, effective facilitation, and decision-focused processes.
